How can Christianity reach out to any other world religion if it can't even accept its own diffrences among its own internal denominations? Can you relate to any ofthe following true (and sanitized) stories?
1. In a casual conversation between two long-time friends, the subject of religion came up. Mark asked John what church he went to. John said he was a Methodist. Within a fraction of a second, perhaps not even intentionally, Mark replied that he was a Chrsitian instead, as if Methodists suddenly weren't. This iced up their friendship for quite a while. Sound familiar?
2. Jason, - a professional musician - would frequently volunteer to play the organ in any Christian church that needed his services. One fine day, one denominational church leader took intrest in Jason and asked him of which religious denomination might he be. Jason declared himself a mormon. Jason was never called to play at this particular church again. Things that make one think "Hmmmm"....
3. Tommy and Jenny desperately wanted to get married. Unfortunately, they were from diffrent Christian denominations. Tommy was a Christian Scientist while Jenny was a Jehovah's Witness. Church leaders at both ends refused to accept and marry the couple until one converted to the others denomination. Routinely, members are always encouraged in many churches to date and marry from within to even avoid such conflicts; but Tommy and Jenny met in college, and neither denominational church leadership would buckle. Because of this, the two now meet in secret to avoid upsetting their respective church leaders. Have you ever heard of any predicament this ridicolous?
Sadly, you (and many others) can probably relate to at least one of these true stories. Here's your chance to sound off if you or any one of your friends or relatives ever experienced a similar situation.
